In Italy, a space for political discussion is about to be created to relaunch the challenges of the conservatives, this time with an eye more open than ever on Europe: that space is called Atreju and will take place in Rome, at Castel Sant’Angelo, from the 14th to the 17th December.
The name recalls one of the protagonists of Michael Ende’s novel “The Neverending Story” and the initiative was born in 1998 on the initiative of a leader of the National Alliance youth movement at the time, Giorgia Meloni (FdI, ECR).
Since that edition, many others have been organized until this year’s edition, entitled “Welcome back Italian pride”, clearly signaling the return of a legitimately conservative government in Italy.
The very rich program includes interventions by people from all walks of life on the national and international political scene, whilst maintaining a clear line to follow and the political objectives set by Fratelli d’Italia and its youth movement Gioventù Nazionale.
Among the topics covered will be the issue of Autonomy, interviewing several Regional Presidents, including Francesco Acquaroli and Marco Marsilio of FdI but also the President of Tuscany Eugenio Giani (PD, S&D) and the Minister for Regional Affairs Roberto Calderoli ( League, ID). With the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè (FdI, ECR) and the entrepreneurs Flavio Briatore and Elisabetta Fabri, we will talk about the beauty of Italy to relaunch a clear policy on tourism. The group leaders of all the parties of the center-right government will then meet in a public debate to explain the political vision of the country.
On Friday we will also talk about family policies, with a very heated debate between the Minister of the Family Eugenia Roccella (FdI, ECR), Ivan Scalfarotto (IV, RE), and Anna Paola Concia (ex-PD, S&D). The debate on the ecological transition is important, in which the Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratin (FI, PPE), the Minister of the Sea Nello Musumeci (FdI, ECR), Angelo Bonelli (AVS, GUE/NGL) and the President of the Puglia Michele Emiliano (PD, S&D).
We will also talk about economic growth with the Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti (Lega, ID), about the Government’s cultural policies with the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano (FdI, ECR), about justice reform with the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio (FdI, ECR ) and with the former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi (IV, RE). The fight against organized crime was also at the center of the discussion, with interventions by the Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara (Lega, ID), Alfredo Mantovano (FdI, ECR), the President of the Anti-Mafia Commission Chiara Colosimo (FdI, ECR) and the parish priest by Caivano Don Maurizio Patriciello.
“Get off the sofa: Italy rolls up its sleeves” is the name of the panel dedicated to the world of work, in which the Minister of Labor Marina Elvira Calderone and the former Ministers of Labor Cesare Damiano (PD, S&D) and Maurizio will intervene Sacconi (UdC, PPE) as well as the Director of the Observatory on Italian Public Accounts Carlo Cottarelli. Ignazio La Russa (FdI, ECR), Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati (FI, PPE), and Luciano Violante (PD, S&D) will instead illustrate the reform proposal on the premiership, vigorously promoted by Giorgia Meloni.
On the evening of Friday 15 December, the entries of new parties within the ECR family, chaired by Giorgia Meloni, will also be presented. In particular, the Cypriot Christos Christou (ELAM, ECR), the Croatian Božo Petrov (Most, ECR), the Romanian George Simion (AUR, ECR), and the Lithuanian Giedrius Surplys (LVŽS, ECR) will speak.
On Saturday 16th the most famous guests will be the coach of the Italian national football team Luciano Spalletti and the Olympic swimmer Gregorio Paltrineri to talk about sport together with the Minister for Sport Andrea Abodi; there will also be debates on well-being and quality, with the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida (FdI, ECR), the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci and the President of Coldiretti Ettore Prandini. But the main moment will be in the early afternoon, when at 12.00 the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama (PSSH, S&D) will be interviewed, and at 12.45 as a special guest, the entrepreneur and the richest person in the world, Elon Musk.
The works will resume at 3.00 pm on Saturday to talk about immigration with the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi and the ex-Minister Marco Minniti (PD, S&D) and about artificial intelligence with a meeting organized by the ECR and moderated by the Secretary-General Antonio Giordano (FdI, ECR) to bring together the Undersecretary for Technological Innovation Alessio Butti (FdI, ECR), the Spanish MEP Hermann Tertsch (Vox, ECR), the Director of the Cybersecurity Center of West Florida University Eman El-Sheikh and the scientific director of the Italian Institute of Technology Giorgio Metta. Giulio Tremonti (FdI, ECR) will introduce the debate on the geopolitical role of Italy in which the President of the Chamber of Deputies Lorenzo Fontana (Lega, ID), the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council Giovanbattista Fazzolari (FdI, ECR), the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto (FdI, ECR), the Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirielli (FdI, ECR) and Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni.
In addition to the debates between the Deputy Minister of Economy Maurizio Leo (FdI, ECR) and Luigi Marattin (IV, RE) on the tax issue, between the Minister of Enterprise Adolfo Urso (FdI, ECR) and Carlo Calenda (Action, RE) on the topic of Made in Italy, among several Italian Mayors to talk about the Cities of the future, which will close the day on Saturday, the conference “Europe to be defended: the reasons of the conservatives against the European superstate” with the interventions of the Minister of Business should be highlighted Europeans Raffaele Fitto (FdI, ECR) and the MEPs Nicola Procaccini (FdI, ECR), Carlo Fidanza (FdI, ECR), Jorge Buxadé (Vox, ECR) and Radosław Fogiel (PiS, ECR), followed by interventions by Santiago Abascal ( Vox, ECR), the President of Gioventù Nazionale Fabio Roscani (FdI, ECR), the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani (FI, PPE), the Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini (Lega, ID) and – as an obvious conclusion – the President of I recommend Giorgia Meloni.
An event that will trace the path of the conservatives towards a 2024 full of epochal challenges but also of potential successes, first of all giving a new history to a European Union that has been stopped for too many years thinking about how to give itself a winning structure. Giorgia Meloni and the ECR are ready to change the destiny of Europe, also thanks to the ideas that will emerge from the debates with different political forces.
