Fratelli d’Italia’s main event is back, with a broad focus on the conservative world.
Atreju, one of the most anticipated events of the year, will take place from 8 to 15 December 2024 in the Italian capital, Rome. This event, hosted by Fratelli d’Italia, represents an important opportunity for young people and adults, politicians and citizens, activists, and simple enthusiasts of culture and politics to meet and discuss. With a program full of events, debates, and activities, Atreju confirms itself as a reference point in the Italian and European political landscape.
The name “Atreju” takes inspiration from the protagonist of the famous fantasy novel “The Neverending Story” written by Michael Ende in 1979: Atreju is a young warrior who embarks on a long journey to save the Kingdom of Fantasy from the threat of the Nothing. A clearly symbolic figure that recalls courage, struggle, and commitment to one’s ideals, and values that have always resonated in the youth of the Italian right wing throughout the times, defending their generations from the risk of indifference, represented in this case by Nothing. The Neverending Story itself is symbolic, representing the history of Tradition that the Right is committed to defending from left-wing progressivism aimed at destroying values and symbols of the past.
The festival, launched in 1998 by Giorgia Meloni, then a militant in Azione Giovani, from a simple meeting between young militants, has become an event that attracts national and international politicians, intellectuals, artists, and people from all over Europe. It is a festival that has brought together since its origins the convivial moments of the Youth Front starting from Tolkien and the hobbit camps that took inspiration from him, events that began in 1977 by the youngsters of that time and continued until 1981 whose name derives from the fantastic setting that permeated the event. “There is good in this world, master Fodro: it is right to fight for this” is the most recurring motto.
Last year, international guests were central, both among civil society (such as the Iranian footballer Shiva Amini active for women’s rights in her country and the parents of little Indi Gregory) and in the political and economic world. The speeches of entrepreneurs of the caliber of Elon Musk, who spoke with journalist Nicola Porro on the new technological frontiers, and of the former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (Conservative, pro-ECR) introduced by Prime Minister Meloni herself, left their mark. Among the main events, the debates with prominent guests also stood out, such as Albanian President Edi Rama (PSSH, pro-S&D) and Spanish leader Santiago Abascal (Vox, PfE), who addressed crucial issues such as national sovereignty and European challenges. Furthermore, the party saw a significant participation of delegations from all over Europe, underlining the importance of the event as a platform for international dialogue. Finally, concerts and cultural activities enriched the atmosphere, making Atreju 2023 an engaging and memorable experience.
This year the meeting will take place in the central weeks of December and the international delegation of the ECR Party will once again be present. The delegation, led by the Secretary-General MP Antonio Giordano, will land in Rome on the 13th of December, welcomed with a welcome reception before kicking off the political and cultural session. All cultural activities, including a networking dinner, will take place on Saturday the 14th with the main closing of the festival celebrated on Sunday the 15th, where the most awaited speaker of the event, the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, will take over the stage.
The only indiscretion comes from the poster launched on social media in October in which the backdrop of the Circus Maximus can be glimpsed, probably the location chosen for this edition. Expectations are certainly high, for the young people of the Center-Right Atreju does not only represent a community moment but an opportunity for growth, exchanges, and training meetings. It is the spirit of a youth that does not stop fighting and that meets, once a year, bringing together militants from all over Italy and beyond.
This event is not simply a political gathering; it includes cultural, musical, and recreational activities designed to foster connections and the exchange of ideas among participants who will have the opportunity to interact with keynote speakers and other young people, creating a lively atmosphere for networking and collaboration. The organizers emphasize that participation in Atreju can lead to impactful relationships and inspire new perspectives on the challenges of our future.
The call to action is clear: Join us at Atreju 2024 and help shape the discussion and make a difference in our conservative community.
