A recent report, produced in collaboration with Technè and overseen by Dr. Michela Morizzo, has illuminated the fundamental importance of agriculture—a sector that not only serves as a cornerstone of the European economy but also plays a vital role in our cultural and social identity. Based on extensive research involving 500 agricultural enterprises and 1,000 workers in France, Italy, and Poland, the study focused on Europe’s leading agricultural producers.
In this regard, ECR Party Secretary-General Antonio Giordano notes that Eurostat data from 2023 indicates that these three nations produced agricultural goods valued at over €76 billion in France, €51 billion in Italy, and €35 billion in Poland. These figures highlight the significant economic contributions of these countries and reflect their crucial roles in ensuring food security not just within their borders, but across the European Union as a whole. As the demand for food continues to rise, the importance of these agricultural outputs cannot be overstated. Ensuring that these nations maintain their production levels while adhering to sustainable practices will be a challenge that requires collaboration across all levels of government and industry.
The G7 Agriculture Summit, held in Italy in September 2024, emphasized the necessity of a multilateral approach to global challenges such as climate change, food security, and biodiversity loss. World leaders highlighted the urgency of investing in sustainable and innovative agricultural technologies, and the ECR Party is committed to ensuring that these priorities are reflected in European policies. Such investments are crucial for developing practices that minimize environmental impact while maximizing productivity, thus ensuring that future generations inherit a resilient agricultural landscape.
The report reveals crucial insights into the expectations and concerns of both agricultural enterprises and workers. Listening to and responding to these needs through concrete policies will be essential for fostering growth, sustainability, and the protection of our land. Stakeholders must work together to address issues such as labor rights, fair wages, and access to resources, ensuring that the voices of those who toil in the fields are heard and respected.
United in support of the agricultural sector, the ECR Party is ready to defend the interests of Europe’s farmers and workers, leading the way toward a sustainable and prosperous future for European agriculture. By championing policies that support innovation, resilience, and inclusivity, the ECR Party aims to foster an environment where agriculture can thrive, benefiting both the economy and the cultural heritage that defines Europe.
